<> What do you think of the middle-class?
The answer to that question depends on the person I am speaking to, for example you have a professional job, so you’re educated, you have a good wage, I guess you have a nice house an expensive car perchance two & you go on holiday two or three times a year. You have all the attributes. But you I would say are from the working class, am I correct?
<> What makes you think that?
I asked first
<> You cannot tell
Oh yes I can
<> How?
Where history is concerned we would only have to go back a blink of the eye to find your kin working in the field.
<> When was that?
Pre Industrial Revolution, but if I ask two simple questions I am likely to be able to know the class of your family in the early to mid 1900s.
<> What are those questions?
Will you answer them without hesitation?
<> What are they?
They will not bring or should not bring embarrassment will you answer without hesitation?
<> I will try
Did any of your family fight in the First World War?
<> Yes
What rank were they?
<> Sergeant
Sergeant eh, working class
<> How do you know that?
The vast majority of soldiers and NCOs were and still are working class. Did he survive?
<> Yes
So your family were working class till beyond 1918
<> Why 1918
The end of the First World War & if I were to ask similar questions regarding the Second World War that would date the likely class of your family beyond 1945. You should be proud of your working class roots.
<> Why?
Because it was the working class that won those two fucking wars
<> What of the middle class
Mainly officers, young officers did go over the top and were involved in the fighting but officers were there to work out strategy and such, the vast majority of the actual fighting was done by the working class, many of whom from this region where miners before the war. You should be proud of the working class; you are free today because they were willing to put their life on the line, for you. You are new middle class and the new middle class are the working class ha, ha, ha. We have a beautiful new princess and she has working class roots. What is good enough for the future Queen of England should be good enough for you. Most of her family are from Leeds but she has family links to the Sunderland area and would you believe some of them were miners.
<> What do you think of her?
